What is LEED?

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

LEED provides a roadmap for measuring and documenting success for every building type and phase of a building lifecycle.

What is LEED Certification?

The first step to LEED certification is to Register your project. A project is a viable candidate for LEED certification if it can meet all prerequisites and achieve the minimum number of points to earn the Certified level of LEED project certification. To earn Certification, a building project must meet certain prerequisites and performance benchmarks ("credits") within each category. Projects are awarded Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification depending on the number of credits they achieve. This comprehensive approach is the reason LEED-certified buildings have reduced operating costs, healthier and more productive occupants, and conserve our natural resources.

How Does RSI Fit in With Your LEED Project?

Of the 13 possible points in the Materials and Resources category, 2 of those points can be acquired from RSI.

MR Credit 2: Construction Waste Management

Intent

• Divert construction, demolition, and land clearing debris from landfill disposal.
• Redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process.
• Redirect reusable materials to appropriate sites.

Requirements (2 points)

LEVEL 1: Develop and implement a waste management plan, quantifying material diversion goals. Recycle and/or salvage at least 50% of contruction, demolition, land clearing waste. Calculations can be done by weight or volume but must be consistent throughout. (one point)

LEVEL 2: Develop and implement a waste management plan, quantifying material diversion goals. Recycle and/or salvage an additional 25% (75% total) of construction, demolition, land clearing waste. Calculations can be done by weight or volume but must be consistent throughout. (one point)

All of the waste materials from your project will be processed at this facility and with your help we expect to achieve at least the 50% diversion from landfill level required to achieve the LEED MR credit 2.1. We have successfully completed over 100 LEED projects (all have achieved 2 MR credit points) and we are currently working with General Contractors on several new USGBC - LEED certifications projects.

We grade and weigh each load from your project and provide a monthly cumulative report on your progress toward the 2 LEED certification points available. Additionally, we are available to consult with your staff on your construction waste management plan.
